Trusted In-Home Care for Sun City West Residents

Sun City West is the second of Del Webb's Arizona retirement communities, opened in 1978 and built out by 1997 with roughly 17,500 homes and around 29,000 residents. Every household must have at least one resident age 55 or older, which makes Sun City West one of the largest concentrated 55+ populations in Arizona. Ativo Home Care serves families across all four Recreation Centers, R.H. Johnson, Beardsley, Kuentz, and Palm Ridge, throughout the 85375 ZIP code. Our caregivers know the layout of the community, the difference between the Grandview area and the homes off Meeker Boulevard, and how to coordinate with Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City when hospital care is needed. We provide companion care, personal care, memory care support, respite for family members, and home support so residents can keep playing pickleball at Beardsley, golfing at Grandview, and showing up to club meetings as long as possible.

Our Caregiver Standard

Skill gets a caregiver through the door. Character is what earns them a place on my team. Every caregiver I bring on is held to the same standard as our Ativo Senior Living teams, because that is the standard a family deserves when they open their door to us. The people who make it through are the people I would want caring for my own parents.

Why Ativo

Why Families in Sun City West Choose Ativo

Families in Sun City West choose Ativo Home Care because we are connected to the same Arizona senior care network that operates Ativo Senior Living. Founded by Bryan Ziebart, that network has been working with West Valley seniors and their physicians for years. Sun City West is unique because it was purpose built for retirement, which means the community is full of seniors who want to keep their independence and stay engaged in clubs, golf, and Recreation Center activities for as long as possible. That is exactly what we are designed to support. Our caregivers help with the things that get harder over time, bathing, dressing, medication reminders, transportation to Banner Boswell, and meal preparation, while leaving room for the things that make Sun City West home. We coordinate with Banner Boswell's senior care programs, accept long-term care insurance assignments, and offer flexible hours so families can scale care up or down as needs change.

Your parent's own home. A dedicated caregiver. Their routine, their comfort, their life.

In-home care in Sun City West tracks the broader West Valley market. The 2025 CareScout Cost of Care Survey puts the statewide rate at about $38 per hour for non-medical home care. At about $38 per hour, 20 hours of weekly companion care runs roughly $3,300 per month. That compares with a statewide median of about $6,250 per month for assisted living and roughly $8,365 per month for a nursing home semi-private room. Because most Sun City West homes are paid off or close to it, many families find that in-home care preserves the equity, social network, and Recreation Center membership a move to assisted living would force them to give up. Ativo provides flat, transparent hourly pricing with no assessment fees, and we will assist families with long-term care insurance claims so reimbursement goes directly to the policyholder.

Our Community

The Sun City West Senior Community We Serve

Life in Sun City West is built around the Recreation Centers. There are four of them, R.H. Johnson, Beardsley, Kuentz, and Palm Ridge, all owned and operated by the Recreation Centers of Sun City West, Inc., a resident-governed nonprofit. Together they offer more than 90 chartered clubs, seven golf courses, a state-of-the-art bowling center, a private library, and a performance theater. Most residents pick a primary Rec Center based on where they live, but membership covers all four. Sun City West sits in unincorporated Maricopa County, governed by the Board of Supervisors rather than a city council, which is one of the reasons taxes and HOA fees feel different here than in incorporated cities like Surprise just to the north. The community is bordered by Sun City to the east, Sun City Grand and Surprise to the north and west, and the Agua Fria River corridor to the south. Banner Boswell Medical Center, the regional hospital that has anchored health care for the Sun Cities since 1970 and specializes in geriatric medicine, sits about 4 miles east on West Thunderbird Boulevard. Many of our clients have lifelong relationships with Boswell, and we work directly with their care teams to ensure transitions home are smooth.

5 out of 5 stars
I cannot recommend Gabby and her team highly enough. They became a vital part of my dad's care team and an important advocate for him and extension of our family in the last several years of his life. From home health care to accompanying us to doctors appointments to keeping me company in the ER during several hospitalizations to private care in an assisted living home, Gabby's team was caring, thoughtful and proactive during some very challenging circumstances and also provided essential companionship as well. Call Gabby and her team! You and your loved one will be so grateful to have them in your life, as Dad and I did. Thank you Gabby, I never could have cared for dad alone.

FAQ

Questions About Care in Sun City West

Common questions from families looking for in-home senior care in Sun City West, Arizona.

Reviewed by Gabriela Ordonez, Director, Ativo Home Care

Do you serve all of Sun City West, including all four Recreation Centers?

Yes. Ativo Home Care serves the entire 85375 ZIP code, including residents whose home Rec Center is R.H. Johnson, Beardsley, Kuentz, or Palm Ridge. Because RCSCW membership covers all four centers, we coordinate care so clients can keep attending clubs and activities at whichever center they prefer.

How much does in-home care cost in Sun City West?

In-home care in Sun City West typically runs $38 per hour based on the 2025 CareScout Cost of Care Survey. At 20 hours per week, that is roughly $3,300 per month. Many Sun City West families pair private-pay with long-term care insurance to extend their care budget, and we help with the claims paperwork.

Which hospital do you coordinate with for Sun City West clients?

Banner Boswell Medical Center on West Thunderbird Boulevard in Sun City, about 4 miles east, is the primary hospital for most Sun City West residents. Banner Boswell has been the anchor for Northwest Valley senior care since 1970 and specializes in geriatric medicine, including stroke care, cardiology, and Parkinson's-related deep brain stimulation.

Can my parent stay in Sun City West with home care instead of moving?

Yes, and this is the most common reason Sun City West families call us. The community was built for retirement living and most residents are deeply connected to neighbors, clubs, and Recreation Center routines. In-home care preserves that life. Our caregivers help with bathing, dressing, medications, transportation, and meals so your parent can keep their schedule and their home.

Does Ativo Home Care work with long-term care insurance?

Yes. Ativo is private-pay, but we routinely submit documentation to long-term care insurance carriers on behalf of our Sun City West clients. We help families understand their elimination periods, daily benefit caps, and required activities-of-daily-living (ADL) thresholds, and we coordinate reimbursement directly with the policyholder.
