Serving Sun City

Trusted In-Home Care for Sun City Residents

Sun City is the original Del Webb active-adult community and the model for nearly every 55+ master plan that followed. Opened on January 1, 1960, on the site of the former Marinette farming town, Sun City drew an estimated 100,000 visitors its first weekend and landed on the cover of Time magazine within months. Today the community covers roughly 14 square miles of unincorporated Maricopa County with around 39,700 residents, seven recreation centers, eight golf courses, and the Sun Bowl Amphitheatre. Ativo Home Care serves Sun City families across the 85351 and 85373 ZIP codes with caregivers who know how to navigate the loop streets, the rec center gate procedures, and the short drive to Banner Boswell Medical Center, the regional hospital that has anchored geriatric care for the community since 1970. We provide companion care, personal care, memory care support, respite, and home support so residents can stay in the homes and routines they have built over decades.

Our Caregiver Standard

Skill gets a caregiver through the door. Character is what earns them a place on my team. Every caregiver I bring on is held to the same standard as our Ativo Senior Living teams, because that is the standard a family deserves when they open their door to us. The people who make it through are the people I would want caring for my own parents.

Why Ativo

Why Families in Sun City Choose Ativo

Families in Sun City choose Ativo Home Care because we are connected to the same Arizona senior care network that operates Ativo Senior Living. Founded by Bryan Ziebart, our organization has built direct relationships with Banner Boswell Medical Center, the N.I.C.H.E.-designated geriatric hospital that is essentially Sun City's hospital. Sun City is the original, and the original always has its own rhythm. Many of our clients have lived here since the 1970s or 1980s, raised the community alongside it, and have multi-decade relationships with neighbors, doctors, and recreation center staff. A move out of Sun City is rarely just a move; it is the end of a way of life. Our care model is built to keep that life intact. Caregivers are matched for continuity rather than rotated, schedules flex around rec center clubs, golf tee times, and Sun Bowl performances, and we coordinate directly with Banner Boswell case managers when hospital care is needed. We accept long-term care insurance assignments and offer transparent flat hourly pricing.

In-Home Care

$3,300

per month (20 hrs/week)

Your parent's own home. A dedicated caregiver. Their routine, their comfort, their life.

In-home care in Sun City tracks the broader Arizona market. The 2025 CareScout Cost of Care Survey puts the statewide rate at about $38 per hour for non-medical home care. At about $38 per hour, 20 hours of weekly companion care runs roughly $3,300 per month. That compares with a statewide median of about $6,250 per month for assisted living and roughly $8,365 per month for a nursing home semi-private room. Because most Sun City homes are paid off and rec center dues are already part of the household budget, many families find that in-home care preserves the social network, golf club access, and decades of community routine that a move to assisted living would force them to give up. Ativo provides flat hourly pricing with no assessment fees and assists with long-term care insurance reimbursement.

Our Community

The Sun City Senior Community We Serve

Daily life in Sun City revolves around the seven recreation centers operated by the Recreation Centers of Sun City (RCSC), the resident-governed nonprofit that effectively serves as the community's government. Each rec center has its own personality, but most residents have a primary one based on where they live: Bell Recreation Center along Bell Road, Lakeview Recreation Center on Thunderbird, Mountain View Recreation Center on Olive, Sundial Recreation Center on the south side, Marinette Recreation Center as the smallest and most historic, Fairway Recreation Center near several of the golf courses, and Oakmont Recreation Center on the west edge. Rec center membership covers all seven and includes access to eight golf courses, a state-of-the-art bowling center, a private library, the Sun Bowl Amphitheatre, lawn bowling, swimming pools, pickleball, and dozens of chartered hobby and arts clubs. Because Sun City is unincorporated, there is no city council or mayor; the community is governed by deed restrictions, RCSC, and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, which keeps taxes and fees distinct from neighboring incorporated cities. Banner Boswell Medical Center on West Thunderbird Boulevard has been the community's hospital since 1970 and specializes in cardiovascular care, stroke care (Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center), and deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's patients.

5 out of 5 stars
I cannot recommend Gabby and her team highly enough. They became a vital part of my dad's care team and an important advocate for him and extension of our family in the last several years of his life. From home health care to accompanying us to doctors appointments to keeping me company in the ER during several hospitalizations to private care in an assisted living home, Gabby's team was caring, thoughtful and proactive during some very challenging circumstances and also provided essential companionship as well. Call Gabby and her team! You and your loved one will be so grateful to have them in your life, as Dad and I did. Thank you Gabby, I never could have cared for dad alone.

FAQ

Questions About Care in Sun City

Common questions from families looking for in-home senior care in Sun City, Arizona.

Reviewed by Gabriela Ordonez, Director, Ativo Home Care

Do you serve all seven Sun City recreation centers?

Yes. Ativo Home Care serves all of Sun City across the 85351 and 85373 ZIP codes, including residents whose primary rec center is Bell, Lakeview, Mountain View, Sundial, Marinette, Fairway, or Oakmont. Because RCSC membership covers all seven centers, our caregivers can support clients who attend clubs and activities at multiple centers.

How much does in-home care cost in Sun City?

In-home care in Sun City typically runs $38 per hour based on the 2025 CareScout Cost of Care Survey. At 20 hours per week, that is roughly $3,300 per month. Many Sun City families pair private-pay with long-term care insurance to extend their care budget, and we help with the claims paperwork.

Which hospital do you coordinate with for Sun City clients?

Banner Boswell Medical Center on West Thunderbird Boulevard is the primary hospital for Sun City residents and is located inside the community itself. Banner Boswell has been the anchor of Northwest Valley senior care since 1970, is a designated N.I.C.H.E. facility specializing in geriatric medicine, and is one of three Valley facilities offering deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's and essential tremor.

Is Sun City the same as Sun City West or Sun City Grand?

No. Sun City is the original Del Webb community, opened in 1960. Sun City West is a separate Del Webb community to the west, opened in 1978. Sun City Grand is a third, newer Del Webb community in nearby Surprise. Each has its own boundaries, ZIP codes, recreation centers, and governance. Ativo serves all three and can clarify which community a specific address belongs to.

Can my parent stay in Sun City with home care instead of moving?

Yes, and this is the most common reason Sun City families call us. The community was built for retirement living and most residents are deeply connected to neighbors, RCSC clubs, and rec center routines built over decades. In-home care preserves that life. Our caregivers help with bathing, dressing, medications, transportation to Banner Boswell, and meals so your parent can keep their schedule and their home.
