Companion Care

Light-touch, relationship-focused support that keeps your loved one connected and engaged.

What's Included

What This Looks Like

Companion care is about human connection first. Your caregiver becomes a trusted friend who happens to help around the house. They share meals, play cards, go for walks, and keep your loved one genuinely engaged with life.

On a practical level, companion care is about keeping the day pleasant and connected. Sharing a meal at the table, helping with a video call to the grandkids, or driving to the farmers market on Saturday for a fun outing. The focus is engagement, not chores. When your loved one needs deeper household help like full cooking, cleaning, laundry, and errands, that is exactly what our Home Support service is built for.

This is our most popular entry point because it feels natural. There is no clinical atmosphere, no uniform, no awkwardness. Just a warm, reliable person who shows up and makes the day better.

Many families start here and adjust over time. If needs change, your care plan changes with them. No new intake process, no waiting lists, no starting over.

Everything Included

Companion Care Services We Provide

Everything below is part of one care plan, delivered by the same trusted caregiver. Nothing is booked or billed separately.

Social & Recreational Activities

Card games, puzzles, hobbies, walks, and real conversation that keep the week interesting. Caregivers learn what your loved one genuinely enjoys and build visits around it, rather than following a generic activity sheet.

Transportation & Accompaniment

A ride and a companion for church, lunch dates, club meetings, and social events, with the caregiver staying alongside the whole time. For pharmacy runs, groceries, and errand logistics, our Home Support service covers that side of transportation.

Our Caregiver Standard

Skill gets a caregiver through the door. Character is what earns them a place on my team. Every caregiver I bring on is held to the same standard as our Ativo Senior Living teams, because that is the standard a family deserves when they open their door to us. The people who make it through are the people I would want caring for my own parents.

FAQ

Questions About Companion Care

We hear these questions every week about companion care. If yours is not here, call us. We would rather spend 10 minutes on the phone than leave you guessing.

What does a typical companion care visit look like?

Every visit is different because every client is different. A morning visit might include making breakfast together, tidying up the kitchen, and going for a walk. An afternoon visit could be grocery shopping, playing cards, and prepping dinner. We follow your loved one's rhythm, not a script.

Can companion care include driving to outings?

Yes. Companion caregivers happily drive your loved one to social events, lunch dates, club meetings, church, and other outings that keep them engaged and connected. For medical appointments, pharmacy runs, and errands, our Home Support service handles that side of transportation and logistics.

How is this different from personal care?

Companion care focuses on social engagement and household help. Personal care adds hands-on assistance with daily living activities like bathing, dressing, and mobility. Many families start with companion care and add personal care services later if needed.

What if my parent says they don't need help?

This is the most common concern we hear. We position the caregiver as a helper or friend, not a nurse. Most resistant seniors warm up within the first visit or two once they realize this is about companionship, not being treated like a patient.

Do you match caregivers based on personality?

Yes, always. We consider interests, communication style, energy level, and even cultural background. A great personality match is the single biggest predictor of a successful care relationship.

Not Sure Where to Begin?

Every family's situation is different. Let's talk about yours. In about 20 minutes we'll map out a simple starting plan and a clear path forward, with no pressure.
